Here at goPhysio, we work closely with local netball club, Swan Netball Club, to help their players prevent and manage netball injuries and keep players playing or get back to play ASAP.
We see first hand the impact of injuries on young (and older!) players who love being active. But with the right training, support and access to professional help, you can reduce risk of injuries and get back to the game safely and quickly.
There are a number of aspects of the game of netball that make it prone to certain injuries. But being aware of these aspects mean that you can be pro-active about minimising the risk of netball injuries.
Here are the most common injuries we see in netball. Injuries normally happen through 1 of 3 mechanisms:
- Contact injury
- Indirect contact injury
- Non-Contact injury
When you come to see us at goPhysio with a netball injury, we will always ask you questions about your injury so we can find out the mechanism. This will give us lot’s of clues and information as to what you’ve injured and how.
Prevention is always better than cure! An oldie but a goodie as sayings go!! And this saying is totally true when it comes to injuries. Injuries tend to either be intrinsic, so factors within your body or extrinsic, so factors outside of your body. Some of these factors you can do something about, so they are modifiable. Some you can’t do anything about (but you may still have some choice in these, such as whether to play in certain weather).
Being aware of the risk factors and knowing which ones you can be pro-active about is a really positive way to help prevent injuries.
