Reformer Pilates at goPhysio combines specialist APPI-trained instruction with the versatility of the Pilates Reformer to improve strength, flexibility, posture and confidence in movement. Our small group Clinical Pilates classes take place in our dedicated air-conditioned studio in Chandlers Ford and are suitable for beginners, rehabilitation and experienced exercisers alike.

What Happens During a Reformer Pilates Class?

Each class uses the Pilates Reformer – a specialist piece of equipment that uses adjustable spring resistance to support and challenge your movement.

Your instructor will guide you through a series of controlled exercises designed to improve strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness.

Because the Reformer can be adjusted for each individual, exercises can be progressed or modified to suit beginners, those recovering from injury or more experienced participants.

Our Clinical Reformer Pilates is led by experienced APPI-trained instructors including Francesca, Kim, Lottie and Roz. Together, our experienced Reformer Pilates team combines specialist Clinical Pilates training with extensive healthcare knowledge to help you move safely, build strength and achieve your individual goals.

Absolutely. The Reformer can provide additional support as well as resistance, making it suitable for beginners through to experienced participants. It’s also great for those who find getting on and off the floor more challenging. 

It’s really personal choice, some people much prefer mat others Reformer! Using the Reformer equipment as part of your Pilates does provide much more variety and some say is a little more challening. However, the Reformer can also be used very effectively to make Pilates exercises easier and is great for those who struggle to get on and off the floor, as the bed is raised.
The Reformer bed has lot’s of moving and working parts, that all have a role to play in your Pilates. And so do you! It is essential that we can screen you for any injuries or particularly weak areas, find out exactly what you want to achieve by coming to Pilates and teach you the basics before you start. It is also crucial you know how to use the equipment safely, as you will neeed to be able to adjust the Reformer as part of the class yourself.

Reformer Pilates uses a specialist spring-loaded machine to provide adjustable resistance and support, allowing for a wider variety of exercises. Mat Pilates uses your own body weight and small pieces of equipment. Both offer excellent benefits, and we’re happy to help you choose the right class for your goals.

Many people find Reformer Pilates beneficial for improving strength, posture and movement, so it can be great if you have back pain. If you’re currently experiencing pain or have a recent injury, we recommend speaking with our team first, as a physiotherapy assessment may be the best place to start.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Grip socks are required for Reformer Pilates to help maintain grip and hygiene during your session.

Our Reformer Pilates classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 6 participants, allowing our instructors to provide individual guidance and support throughout every class.

Most members attend once a week, although many choose to combine Reformer with Mat Pilates or attend more frequently depending on their goals.
