We are so lucky in Chandlers Ford to have access to so many wonderful local walks. Some on our doorstep and some just a short drive away. Walking is such a fantastic form of exercise, it is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to improve your overall health and well being. Just 30 minutes a day can make such a big difference, offering benefits for both your body and your mind.
Here’s a few of our favourite local walks in and around Chandlers Ford.
Hiltingbury Lakes
This serene spot is ideal for a calming walk, with a circular path around the picturesque lakes. The area is home to swans, ducks, and other waterfowl, making it a hit with nature lovers. Benches are dotted along the way, providing lovely spots to sit and take in the view.
The paths have recently been resurfaced, so great for buggies and there are new informative signs around the lakes.
The seasonal changes are lovely if you go regularly.
Hocombe Mead Nature Reserve
Hocombe Mead is a hidden gem offering a delightful mix of woodland and meadow habitats. This local nature reserve is perfect for a leisurely walk, with well-maintained paths winding through ancient trees and open grasslands. Visit in spring to catch the stunning display of bluebells or in autumn to enjoy the vibrant foliage. You can link it up with Hiltingbury Recreation ground, where there are gig open grassy spaces, new paths and a playground.
Itchen Navigation Trail
A short drive from Chandlerโs Ford, the Itchen Navigation Trail offers a longer and more adventurous walk along the River Itchen. This historic waterway is lined with lush greenery and offers stunning views of the river and surrounding countryside. The stretch between Otterbourne and Shawford is particularly popular.
Compton Down
Even better if there’s some great food and a nice hot drink on offer. So I was delighted to discover The Hampshire Pantry recently. This can be combined with a lovely walk from Olivers Battery, read more here.
Plus a few of our other favourites:
- Park at 5 Bridges Road or St Catherines Park and Ride, Winchester (free on a Sunday) and walk up St Catherines Hill and The Itchen Navigation.
- Otterbourne Woods
- Ramalley Copse
