Blue Monday is a name given to a day in January (typically the third Monday of the month) claimed to be the “most difficult day of the year”.
The Samaritans are highlighting that thereโs no such thing as โBlue Mondayโ โ we all have our good days and our bad days, and those arenโt for the calendar to decide.
So we say it’s time to stop this myth about Monday being ‘blue’ and instead start a conversation over a brew! โReach out and connect with family, friends, colleagues and loved ones.
We can always make time for a cuppa and a catch-up. It doesnโt matter if itโs a Monday morning or Saturday night, or if youโre drinking green tea, black coffee or orange juice. If youโre sharing a cuppa and listening, youโre doing it right.
Knowing this day is coming up (and with the associated media around it) what else can you do to help any feelings of being blue?
Even some small, simple things can make a big difference,
- Get out for a walk – fresh air, daylight & nature can work wonders
- Schedule in some exercise, maybe a swim, a new exercise class or kick off day 1 of Couch to 5k if you’re thinking of taking up running
- Connect with a friend, have a cuppa, go for a walk, share your thoughts – you will often find you are not alone in any negative thoughts or feelings and others are also struggling. Sharing with others is great for everyone.
- Stay away from the news and social media, give your mind some breathing space
- What about aย massage ? Treat yourself you’ll feel relaxed, energised and much better overall (we even now offer a fabulous hot stones sports massage)
- Above all, be kind to yourself. We can be our own worst enemies, don’t beat yourself up about how you’re feeling or what you should be doing – try and recognise any positives, no matter how small
Make your Blue Monday the best Monday of the year!
