Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy

COVID-19 Lockdown 3.0 UPDATE: From 26th December 2020 we are be able to continue soft tissue therapy treatment to address pain and injury. We are unable to offer routine, maintenance massage appointments at this time.

Sports massage and soft tissue therapy is an integral part of our service at goPhysio. It helps to reduces the aches and pains we all experience, whether through sport, an injury or the everyday stresses and strains of modern life.

Who is massage for?
Whether you’re a competitive athlete, enthusiastic exerciser, a commuter, a busy parent balancing the demands of work and home, or if you simply spend too much time chained to your computer, massage can benefit you.

Despite the term “sports massage”, you certainly don’t need to be a sports person to feel the benefits of this excellent all-round treatment. Rediscover your zest for life, as you lose stress, gain energy and improve your all-round quality of life!

What does massage involve?

Also known as remedial massage or deep soft tissue massage, sports massage is traditionally deep and firm and can be quite intense. However, our experienced and knowledgeable therapists will target the session to the each individuals’ needs and preferences.

Appointments generally last an hour, although there is an option to have a 30 minute massage if you only need treatment for a smaller, targeted area (such as your calf).

Our sports massage therapists here at goPhysio are trained to degree or masters level, so have an extensive and comprehensive understanding of the body, muscles, tissues and soft tissue treatment techniques. (They haven’t just done a few weekend courses in massage, so you can be reassured you’re in the best possible hands!).

How will a sports massage help me?

Each and every massage is different, our therapists can use a huge range of techniques and styles tailored to you and your prefrerences.

WHY GO TO GOPHYSIO FOR A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Sports massage is an unregulated profession. Anyone can do a weekend course and become a ‘sports massage therapist’. Our team of sports massage practitioners are trained to degree level, with a BSc or MSc in sports and rehab therapy. This gives them a deep and thorough level of knowledge and understanding of how the body works, the impact of pain and injury, the most effective way to both treat and prevent such issues. Working as part of a team, alongside our team of Physio’s and Rehab Therapists, ensures you recieve seamless care should you need more support or input.

We’re certainly not the cheapest around, but we offer exceptional, professional care, in a safe, dedicated, clinical environment.

The best massage I have ever had and I have had them all over the world! The results were immediate. Neck pain and headache greatly relieved. Amazing improvement.

By far, the best sports massage I’ve ever had. Will be going back and would recommend to anyone.

FAQs

How quickly can I get an appointment?
We aim to offer you an appointment within 24 hours, but we can often see you much sooner, even the same day
I’ve had NHS physio and it didn’t help, why should I try goPhysio?
The NHS is under immense pressure, this means that time and resources are limited. Waiting lists can be extremely long and as a result of Coronavirus, many appointments are now online or by phone only. If you do get to see someone, you may have a limited number of appointments.
Do I need to see my GP before booking to see a Physio?
The good news is, no, you don’t. You can decide yourself that you’d benefit from physio and just give us a call to make an appointment or book an appointment online.

Having to go to see your GP is a fairly traditional route. More often than not, for a mild to moderate musculoskeletal (MSK) injury, they’ll just advise you rest and take painkillers for 6 weeks anyway. To be referred to NHS physio, you’re likely to still need to see your GP first. However, there is even a move now in GP surgeries to have physiotherapists as the first point of contact for MSK injuries. Given that consultations for MSK conditions make up an estimated 30% of a GP’s caseload, having physiotherapist take over this role is great!

So, if you have a sprain, back pain, sports injury, neck problems, postural issues, muscular or ligament injury – anything affecting your muscles, bones, joints, you can come directly to see us. This saves you precious time and delays in your recovery so you can get back doing what you want to be doing.

Can I use private medical insurance to pay for my physiotherapy?
There have been many changes with the way health insurance companies cover physiotherapy recently. Subsequently, we require all patients to pay for their physiotherapy appointments up front per appointment.

We will email you a receipt which includes your Physiotherapist’s HCPC number, which you can then provide to your individual insurance company. Depending on your individual policy, you may be able to reclaim some or all of your fees. Policies and cover varies widely now and we are unable to accept any responsibility for the amount you may be able to reclaim from your insurance company, so we advise that you check your cover prior to booking.

Do you offer online appointments?
Yes, we can offer online appointments through a safe and secure, video consultation platform. You can book this alternative online.
How many appointments will I need?
We will give you an idea of how many sessions we think you’ll need at your first appointment. The number of appointments and length of treatment will depend on many variables, including how severe your injury is, how long you’ve been suffering, how well you comply with our advice and any exercises to do between sessions and what your personal aims and goals are.
What types of conditions can you help with?
Physiotherapy is effective at helping people with all aches, pains and conditions that affect your muscles, joints and other tissues throughout your body. This includes more common conditions such as back pain, sports and occupational injuries, long-standing conditions like arthritis and after surgery.
