Shoulder Injuries

More About Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is actually made up of 4 separate joints and is the most mobile, yet unstable joint in the body. The shoulder relies on a complex, synchronised pattern of muscle and joint movements to maintain stability and function of the whole arm. The shoulders mobility is its main weakness, causing it to become easily injured through trauma or overuse. Common shoulder injuries we see at goPhysio include:

  • Ligament sprains i.e. AC joint sprain
  • Rotator cuff injuries and tendonopathies
  • Sub-acromial Pain syndrome (SAPS) i.e. sub-acromial impingement
  • Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis
  • Muscle and ligament tears
  • Tendon problems such as biceps tendonopathy
  • Shoulder dislocation or subluxations
  • Fractures of the humerus or collar bone
  • Shoulder pain referred from the neck

How We Can Help

We always start by carrying out a thorough assessment to find out exactly what’s going on with your shoulder. Once we know what’s causing your shoulder issue, you’ll start a comprehensive rehabilitation programme. This may be a combination of hands on treatments such as soft tissue work, taping, trigger point release, mobilisations, shockwave therapy or acupuncture and a big focus on exercises to regain strength, flexibility and movement in your shoulder.

A crucial part of recovery from a shoulder injury is making sure all the joints and muscles are working well together, and this is a key part in preventing any future problems. With our range of onsite services and treatments we can help make sure you recover from your shoulder injury.

Frequently Asked Questions

No (unless specified by your health insurance company). We accept direct referrals, minimising any hold ups in your treatment, giving you peace of mind and a positive action plan without any delays.
Wear something comfortable and appropriate for the area of your injury to be assessed thoroughly e.g. shorts for a knee injury. Your modesty will be respected at all times.
Payment is due at the end of every appointment. Our preferred method of payment is by card but we can also take payment online securely via Stripe. We can email over a copy of your receipt if you need it. We do not work directly with any private medical insurance companies. Depending on your policy, you may be able to claim back your fees. We advise that you check the full details of your policy prior to booking an appointment.

There have been many changes with the way health insurance companies cover physiotherapy recently. Subsequently, we require all patients to pay for their physiotherapy appointements up front per appointment. We will provide you with a printed receipt which includes your Physiotherapist’s HCPC number, which you can then provide to your individual insurance company. Depending on your individual policy, you may be able to reclaim some or all of your fees. Policies and cover varies widely now and we are unable to accept any responsibility for the amount you may be able to recaim from your insurance company. You will be responsible for any shortfall.

If you are looking to claim back your fees through your health insurance company, please do let us know, as not all our Clinicains are recognised by health insurance.

We understand that sometimes things come up, however we would appreciate as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment. We just ask that you give us a minimum of 24 hrs notice of any changes to your appointment so that we can re-allocate the appointment. Less than 24 hours notice will result in a charge. Appointment slots are very valuable and without adequate notice that appointment can’t be used for another patient. We send out both text message & email appointment reminders to help you remember your appointment time.

Please just give us a call or drop us an email if you’d like to change your appointment.

Not really, just yourself! However, if you have had any tests or investigations related to your problem (like a scan or X Ray), it can be helpful to bring these along. If you are being assessed for an injury which uses some equipment, it may be useful to bring this along e.g. running footwear.

I had a really good visit to GoPhysio. I have had sciatica for two months and it wasn't showing any signs of improvement. Sophie gave me a thorough assessment and then provided acupuncture and ultra sound. After one visit my sciatica has almost gone. I am really pleased.

I have been attending goPhysio for about two years. As a company they are very professional and provide a very good level of service to include efficiency and courtesy and are always consistent in their approach. This very much includes the admin /reception team whom are the first people you make contact with. My Physio has excellent knowledge and has assisted me with sound advice and ongoing exercise regimes which are achievable and realistic. This has supported me well in between appointments. Although always busy I am normally able to see Roz at a mutually convenient time. Thank you to all the team
